Sikyon (or Sicyon) was a Greek city in the northern Peloponnesus that claimed to be one of the oldest city states in Greece. Its choice of motif, the Chimaera, is said to have reflected its long standing rivalry with Corinth (who used the motif of the Pegasus, who helped the hero Bellerophon defeat the Sphinx in Lycia..
