Denarius of Antonia 1

Silver denarius, 19mm, 3.43gm, issued 83/82 BC. Rome mint.

Obv: Laureate head of Jupiter right.

Rev: [Q ANTO BALB], Victory in quadriga holding reins, palm branch and wreath.

References: Sear 279, Cr 364/1d.

Dark toning, off centre.

Antonius Balbus was doubtlessly a Marian Praetor - the reverse alludes to upcoming victory against the returning Sulla, which never happened.
