Gallienus

P. Licinius Egnatius Gallienus
Augustus (AD 253-268)  |  De Imperatoribus Romanis entry

Son of Valerian and Mariniana, he was raised by his father to be emperor. Gallienus remained in the West while his father led his legions to a disastrous defeat against Shapur. After Valerian's death the empire was plagued with revolts that kept Gallienus busy for a further eight years. Eventually a conspiracy successfully removed him and appointed Claudius II as the new emperor
