Claudius II

M. Aurelius Valerius Claudius
Augustus (AD 268-270)  |  De Imperatoribus Romanis entry

An general under Gallienus, he was part of the conspiracy that murdered the emperor and was chosen to replace him. His famous defeat of the Goths earned him the agnomen Gothicus. He died of a plague in AD 270
