Silver tetradrachm, 24mm, 13.64gm, issued 102/101 BC.

Obv: Diademed bust of Ptolemy I right, wearing aegis.

Rev: ΠTOΛEMAIOY BAΣIΛEΩΣ, Eagle standing left on thunderbolt; L IC over IΓ to left, ΠΑ to right.

Issued during the joint reign with his mother, Cleopatra III. Dated Year 16 of Cleopatra and Year 13 of Ptolemy (102/101 BC). As the younger son of Ptolemy VIII but favourite of his mother) his ousted his elder brother to reign jointly with his mother. He was driven from the throne and murdered at sea in 88 BC.
