Stater of Thrace, Koson

Gold stater, 20mm, 8.36gm, issued c. 50-10 BC.

Obv: KOΣΩN, Three togate figures advancing right.

Rev: Eagle standing on sceptre, holding wreath in claw.

Koson may have been a Scythian dynast who issued these gold staters, of which the obverse is copied from a denarius issued by M Junius Brutus in BC 54. He may have been a ally of the Conspirators in the lead up to the Battle of Phillipi.
