Stater of Cilicia, Datames

Silver stater, 23mm, 10.16gm, issued 369-360 BC. Tarsos mint.

Obv: Baal of Tarsus seated right holding eagle tipped sceptre and ear of corn with bunch of grapes, crenelated wall border.

Rev: Sky god Ana pointing towards Datames, within shrine.

Bright, minor horn silver.

Datames was a powerful satrap of Cilicia and Cappadocia under the Persian king Artaxerxes II and later lead a revolt against him before before being assassinated.
