Dr Matthew Shillam has always had a keen interest in ancient Roman and Greek history. In 2001, he started working with Hugh Preston in the Romanorum business. Matthew also designed the web site and an administration ancient coin database. In 2006 he and his wife Katrina purchased Romanorum from Hugh. Matthew completed his PhD in Ancient History from University of New England in 2017 with a thesis on the Roman Emperor and Client Kings, with particular emphasis on the coinage. He completed his MA in Classics (Honours) from ANU in 2008 with a thesis on the dynastic strategies of the third century AD with special emphasis on the coinage. That same year Romanorum moved from Canberra to Grafton, and in 2022 moved to Hobart. Matthew has written several articles for Australasian Coin & Banknote magazine and the newly revised Australian Coin Review. Matthew is a member of the Australian Numismatic Association and a fellow of the Royal Numismatic Society. As an IT professional, Matthew is also designing and developing an online ancient coin database to aid researchers and collectors.

Katrina Shillam developed an enthusiasm for ancient coins after buying one as a present for Matthew. A Librarian with a keen interest in history and architecture, Katrina enjoys liaising with clients and discovering their different collection interests. Katrina has also contributed articles to Australasian Coin & Banknote magazine and the newly revised Australian Coin Review.
Collecting Interests: Architectural reverses, chairs on ancient coins, turretted heads (Tyche), Republican cast bronzes.

Dr Hugh Preston established the ancient coin business Romanorum in 1996, now owned by Matthew and Katrina Shillam. Hugh has written many articles for the Australasian Coin and Banknote magazine under the "Roman World" banner and has also published articles in Archaeological Diggings and Annali degli Istituto Italiano di Numismatica. In 2007 he gave a plenary address on Images in the Roman World, at the Numismatic Association of Australia (NAA) biennial conference.
