Marcus Salvius Otho was the governor of Lusitania in Spain on the death of Nero. He initially backed Galba as emperor, but when Galba chose another as his heir, he plotted against the old man, and had him murdered. However, Vitellius, the governor of Lower Germany had the support of Legions on the Rhine and marched to Italy. Otho went to met him and he committed suicide after it was clear that his troops had lost the battle. Otho reigned for only a few months
