Carausius

M. Aurelius Mausaeus Carausius

Usurper (AD 287-293)

Carausius was the admiral of the British Fleet who rebelled when he learnt Maximianus was about to punish him for some offence. He seized Britain and the Northern shore of Gaul and held it successfully from at least attempt by Maximianus to wrest it back. Carausius however was murdered and replaced by his minister Allectus, who did not fare as well against the Tetrarchy
