Augustus (AD 238)After Gordian and his son were defeated in Africa, the Senate continued its revolt against Maximinus by appointing two of their number to be co Emperor: Balbinus and Pupienus. The mob at Rome preferred a descendant of Gordian and elevated his young grandson instead. Balbinus and Pupienus were killed before the year ended
