Wife of Domitius Ahenobarbus, she then married her uncle Claudius after his wife Messalina was executed. From her first marriage was the future emperor Nero who Claudius adopted. Early in the reign of her son she tried to control him. When he grew tired of her machinations he attempted to murder her. Eventually he was successful in AD 59
