Augustus (AD 457-474)

Proclaimed emperor on the death of Marcian, Leo bolstered his reign through the use of Isaurian troops. He married their leader, now known as Zeno, to his daughter Ariadne. Leo died of dysentery in AD 474 leaving the empire to his young grandson Leo II
