Faustina the Elder was the wife of the Emperor Antoninus Pius and the mother of Faustina the Younger who was married to another emperor, Marcus Aurelius. As Empress she was renowned for her mild and moderate behaviour and her virtue. She died while Antonius was still emperor in AD 141
